About the Role
We are looking for a caring, patient, and committed tutor to support a young person ( Age 15 ) with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Selective Mutism. This is a mentoring‑focused role, where building trust and emotional safety comes first before gradually introducing academic learning.
The tutor will work one‑to‑one, providing a calm, nurturing environment and delivering personalised learning in core subjects while also supporting emotional wellbeing and confidence.
Key Requirements
✔ Minimum of 6 months experience working in an education setting (school, college, alternative provision, tutoring, or similar).
✔ SEN experience is highly desirable, especially with Autism, Selective Mutism, anxiety, or communication differences.
✔ Ability to build rapport through a gentle, relationship‑based approach.
✔ Confident using visual communication strategies and non‑verbal methods.
✔ Patient, trauma‑informed, and able to adapt learning to individual needs.
✔ Reliable, consistent, and able to work independently.
What the Role Involves
Providing 10 hours per week
Delivering tailored academic support in core subjects at the learner's pace. (Primary Curriculm)
Using a mentoring‑first approach to reduce anxiety and build confidence.
Supporting emotional regulation using tools such as visuals, check‑ins, grounding, and structured routines.
Gradually increasing engagement and participation in learning.
Potential for sessions to begin in the home and, if appropriate, slowly transition to community spaces (e.g., libraries, cafés, short walks).
