The role
We're looking for an Underwriter to join our growing team in Macclesfield. In this role, you'll assess finance applications to make fair and responsible lending decisions, balancing commercial needs with customer outcomes. You'll use data, policy, and your own judgment to ensure that our lending decisions are consistent, compliant, and customer-focused.
What you'll do
* Assess motor finance applications in line with company policy and FCA requirements
* Review customer affordability, credit history, and supporting documentation
* Identify potential risks or concerns and escalate where necessary
* Communicate clearly with dealers and customers to gather or clarify information
* Support the refinement of underwriting processes to improve efficiency and outcomes
* Ensure fair treatment of customers at every stage of the process
What we're looking for
* Previous experience in an underwriting or credit decisioning role (preferably motor finance or consumer lending)
* Strong analytical skills and sound judgement
* Knowledge of affordability, credit risk, and responsible lending principles
* Clear and confident communication skills
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Ability to manage workload effectively and meet agreed SLAs
