The opportunity
Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS to join the team at Margam and Port Talbot Substations. We are the construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, supporting infrastructure projects beyond 2030. The initial work includes the delivery of new overhead lines, underground cabling, new substations, and upgrades to existing substations.
What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?
* Responsibility for PCSA for the project.
* Perform all Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
* Prepare and manage interim applications for payment and certifications.
* Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts.
* Manage and report on monthly costs.
* Draft and prepare claims.
* Prepare and agree on final accounts.
* Manage trainees, assistant QS, and QS on a daily basis.
* Negotiate with client representatives, sub-contractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining relationships.
* Advise project management on contractual implications of courses of action.
* Advise on commercial risks within the project.
* Prepare and manage monthly contract review reports, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information, monthly management accounts, and contractual and commercial input into the Project Business Plan.
* Assist with establishing the project budget from contract award.
* Identify and agree on change and implement change control processes.
* Ensure proper execution of contract documents prior to project commencement.
* Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
* Keep your manager fully informed of issues or risks affecting the project or business.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* Degree qualified in relevant discipline (Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management).
* Good knowledge of coins, for sub-contract and cost management.
* Desire to learn the risk and opportunity process internally and with clients.
* Drive to learn and progress to the next grade.
