Overview
We are looking for an experienced UML Modeller to join a major Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) transformation programme within a secure UK Government / Defence environment.
This is a mission-critical, long-term contract suited to a highly capable modeller who can translate complex systems into structured, traceable designs — ensuring alignment with Zero Trust and Security-by-Design principles.
You’ll work alongside Enterprise and Security Architects to model, document, and integrate next-generation secure infrastructure components within a tightly governed engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain UML and SysML models supporting the design, integration, and delivery of secure system architectures.
* Produce detailed architecture artefacts (component, class, sequence, and activity diagrams).
* Collaborate with solution, network, and security architects to ensure alignment with Zero Trust principles.
* Maintain model integrity and traceability across multiple design layers.
* Support architecture reviews and governance boards, providing modelling best practices and technical guidance.
* Ensure all artefacts comply with MODAF, TOGAF, or NIST 800-207 frameworks and defence security standards.
* Work securely, following strict configuration, classification, and change control procedures.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Active UKSV DV clearance (current and in use).
* Proven experience as a UML Modeller, Systems Engineer, or Solution Designer on large-scale or classified programmes.
* Strong knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) and security-by-design concepts.
* Proficiency in Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, or equivalent UML tools.
* Solid understanding of systems integration, data flows, and secure infrastructure design.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to produce high-quality technical artefacts.
Desirable:
* Familiarity with MODAF, TOGAF, or NATO Architecture Framework (NAF).
* Experience within Defence Digital, MOD, or other UK Government secure programmes.
* Understanding of network segmentation, IAM, and policy enforcement mechanisms (PEP/PDP).
* Exposure to Agile, DevSecOps, or secure systems engineering environments.
Interested?
If you hold active DV clearance and have a strong background in UML modelling within secure or defence environments, we’d love to hear from you.
