Senior Buyer – Team Leader
Bristol
Circa £48,000 + Benefits: Private healthcare, share incentive plan, 25 days annual leave, half-day Fridays, defined contribution pension, on-site canteen with subsidised meals, flexible benefits package
Monday to Friday. Early finish on Fridays.
This role is ideal for experienced buyers who have a strong background in supplier management, procurement, and team leadership. Applicants should have proven experience in process improvement, ERP/MRP systems, and complex manufacturing supply chains. A technical qualification (HNC/HND or Degree) and CIPS Level 4 (or equivalent experience) are desirable.
Working closely with planning, engineering, and quality teams, you will be responsible for managing the full procurement cycle, ensuring materials are available to meet production schedules, and driving supplier performance. You will also lead a team of buyers, supporting their development, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with company processes.
The Role:
*Manage approved suppliers and implement commercial solutions for parts and assemblies
*Lead and develop a team of buyers, setting objectives and monitoring performance
*Collaborate with planning to ensure materials meet production schedules
*Support supplier management through agreements, scorecards, visits, and business reviews
*Place orders, balancing cost, lead time, quality, and inventory targets
*Identify opportunities for process improvement and supply chain risk reduction
*Assist with tasks such as invoice queries, return-to-vendor stock, FAI’s, cost updates, and spot purchases
The Person:
*Experienced in purchasing within a manufacturing or engineering environment
*Strong leadership and team management skills
*Confident using ERP/MRP systems (E1, SAP, Oracle) and Excel for data analysis
*Strong understanding of complex manufacturing supply chains
*Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
*Technically minded, with a practical understanding of production and supplier challenges
*Innovative and proactive in problem-solving
