We are inviting applications from people with a background in the care sector and those qualified in Social Work, including AYE students, who are eager to make a lasting impact in the lives of children and young people. Lifestyles provide young people in care with individualised therapeutic residential services within Northern Ireland. Our mission is to support our young people in the very best way that we and help do this, we employ experienced, passionate and qualified staff. Our dedicated staff support young people who may have been affected by trauma, on a medium to long term basis with a view to transition into a less intense model of care. Our service values focus on creating a safe and nurturing environment. To ensure we are supportive, responsive, and empower our young people thrive. We support our young people in their personal, social and educational development. The children and young people placed in or involved with our services may sometimes present with complex and challenging behaviours, often as a result of past trauma, neglect, abuse, attachment disruptions, or instability in previous placements. These behaviours can include difficulties with emotional regulation, impulsivity, aggression, defiance, withdrawal, or anxiety, and are often expressions of unmet needs, fear, or a response to previous adverse experiences. Our therapeutic approach is designed to understand, support, and respond to these behaviours in a compassionate, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental way Job Purpose As a residential care worker, you will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to create a therapeutic and safe environment where young people can feel secure, cared for and nurtured. You will work to build positive relationships with young people, assessing needs, assessing strengths and looking at innovative ways to overcome any challenges that young people experience. Key Responsibilities: To work with young people using person centred approaches and trauma informed practice to work towards achieving positive outcomes. To work co-operatively with childrens services, health agencies and other community-based services, to provide the most effective service for the young people and their families. To take responsibility for the more complex cases/situations presenting within the service. Work as part of a multi- disciplinary team with an aim to achieving high quality, safe practice and service To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures. What we require: Essential: Minimum Level 3 Qualification in related field (applicants with 3 GCSEs or more (including English and Maths) and a willingness to study and achieve a Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification (supported by Lifestyles) are also welcome to apply. Registered with the relevant professional body before your employment starts (e.g. NISCC) A full UK driving license Desirable: Degree in Social Work / Youth Work or related field (AYE Students Welcome) Awareness of challenges which may impact vulnerable children and young people Knowledge of personal, social and educational development Knowledge of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children Experience of direct work with children and young people who present with challenging behaviours Experience of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures. Skills/Abilities Ability to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people Ability to work as part of a team. Possess the necessary skills to factually and clearly record daily records Ability to write reports and produce other management information Ability to lead a shift when required Ability to analyse and resolve problems or challenges children and young people experience Lifestyles adheres to the Access NI Code of Practice; a copy of the policy be made available to you upon request. An enhanced Access NI disclosure check will be required for this post. Having a criminal record will not necessarily debar you from working within Lifestyles. A copy of Lifestyles Ex-Offenders Recruitment Policy can be made available upon request. A copy of Lifestyles Secure Handling of Storage and Retention of Disclosure Information Policy is also available upon request. What Lifestyles offer: Salary: FTE £24,600 - £32,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) A comprehensive induction/ training programme Team reflective practice sessions Regular practice supervision Excellent professional development including potential progression routes into management Hours & Working Pattern: 38 per week on a rota basis including evenings, weekends and sleep-in duties.
