Job: Construction Buyer Location: Portland, Dorset (Osprey Quay) G3 Systems is seeking a commercially aware and proactive Construction Buyer to support the successful delivery of projects across our UK operations. This role is integral to ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement of materials, plant, and services, while maintaining strong supplier partnerships and supporting project delivery teams. Working within a dynamic and growing organisation, you will play a key role in managing supply chain performance, driving value, and contributing to the overall commercial success of our projects. What youll be doing Youll be involved across: Procurement & Purchasing Source and procure construction materials, plant, and services in line with project specifications Obtain, assess, and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors Manage the full procurement lifecycle, including raising and tracking purchase orders Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and procedures Supplier Management Identify, evaluate, and develop key suppliers to ensure strategic alignment and continuity of supply Build and maintain strong, professional supplier relationships Source and onboard new suppliers to enhance cost efficiency, quality, and availability Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality, and delivery metrics Proactively resolve supply chain challenges, delays, or shortages Commercial & Cost Control Negotiate pricing, terms, and framework agreements to deliver best value Collaborate with Quantity Surveyors to align procurement activities with project budgets Track material costs and report on variances Support value engineering and cost reduction initiatives Project Support Liaise closely with site teams to understand requirements and delivery timelines Ensure materials are delivered in line with project programmes Support resolution of procurement-related issues impacting delivery Maintain accurate procurement schedules and records Compliance & Risk Management Ensure materials meet required specifications, standards, and regulations (e.g. CE marking, UKCA) Adhere to health & safety and sustainability requirements Identify and mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruption Maintain robust documentation for audit and traceability Administration & Systems Maintain accurate records of orders, contracts, and supplier communications Utilise procurement/ERP systems (e.g. COINS, SAP, or similar) Produce procurement reports and insights for management Why this role is different Opportunity to work within a specialist, high-impact infrastructure environment Exposure to complex, multi-sector projects including defence and deployable infrastructure A collaborative culture where procurement is seen as a strategic enabler, not just a function Real scope to influence supplier strategy and deliver measurable commercial value What were looking for Ideally working towards or holding CIPS Level 3 (Advanced Certificate) or above Membership of CIOB (desirable) Proven experience in a construction or project-based procurement role Who you are Youre someone who has: Strong understanding of the UK construction supply chain and merchant networks Familiarity with JCT and/or NEC contract environments Knowledge of lead times, logistics, and site-based constraints Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities Awareness of sustainability considerations within procurement Not sure if you meet every requirement?
