Senior Engineer – Highways & Development Control (Contract)
We’re recruiting a Senior Engineer (Highways & Development Control) for a hybrid contract role in London, starting January 2026.
This role sits within a Highways Development Control team and would suit someone with strong local authority experience who is confident acting as a statutory consultee on planning applications.
Key responsibilities:
* Reviewing and responding to planning applications with transport impact
* Acting as statutory consultee for highways and transport matters
* Authorising and monitoring highway works, including S278 / S38 agreements
* Supporting construction management plans, travel plans, and highways adoption
* Deputising for senior management when required
* Working closely with planners, developers, and internal stakeholders
* Delivering a high standard of customer and stakeholder engagement
Key requirements:
* Proven experience in Highways Development Control within a UK local authority
* Strong knowledge of S278 / S38, planning processes, and highways adoption
* Ability to manage multiple applications and stakeholder relationships
* Full UK driving licence
* Eligible to work in the UK
* Willing to undergo DBS (or already hold one)
