The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is hiring a Human Services Assistant for the Documents Management team to provide critical administrative and customer support for our citizens. While the work is administrative, it directly contributes to the department's mission of helping individuals and families in the community.
What You Do and How You Do It:
As a Human Services Assistant for the Documents Management team, you’ll be responsible for various duties to support the Administration and Finance Division of the Department. You will be in communication with internal and external customers while also working on administrative tasks. A major part of the job involves handling a high volume of documents through tasks like scanning, faxing, filing, and data entry. This isn't just routine office work; you'll be dealing with confidential and sensitive information related to individuals' private lives and financial situations. Processing work orders, working in a call center or the front desk with customer services, and troubleshooting/problem solving issues are other tasks that you’ll be responsible for in this role. Working in this role will have you working with a diverse customer base from the County of Chesterfield and the City of Colonial Heights.
Here's What You Need:
1. High school diploma supplemented with post-secondary coursework in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, business or related field, and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
2. Working principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
3. Some knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures of assigned program area as related to assisting the clients.
4. Demonstrated skill in operating a variety of automated office equipment to include calculator, fax/copier; and the use of computer driven word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and file maintenance programs.
We’re Looking for Ideal Candidates Who Have:
5. Excellent organizational, time management, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills preferred.
6. Experience in office support and administration practices and procedures, clerical, and/or direct customer service within social services/human services, business or related field preferred.
7. Relevant work experience in local government or public administration support work preferred.
8. Bilingual in English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. A Chesterfield County application is also required and must be submitted online by the deadline.
This position is part of an Emergency Shelter Team during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required.
