Provide engineering support for Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) and associated systems at Kingsway Rochdale. Work to high standards to maximize operational efficiency and ensure continuous availability for operations.
Impact areas include: Service Team colleagues, Technical Planner, Engineering shift teams, Service Team Leader, Operations, external customers, and stakeholders.
The role involves working within highly mechanised distribution centres with various types of MHE, including automatic cranes, conveyors, elevators, and sorters. Equipment installed by different manufacturers and operated via various PLC/WMS systems. The site operates 24/7, with engineers working a continental shift pattern covering all core hours, performing PPM tasks during scheduled windows.
Work is assigned via radio requests from the Control Room to attend and resolve breakdowns reactively. Tasks are logged in the CMMS system. The role involves working within defined processes but also requires decision-making regarding fault resolution, repairs, and replacements during PPMs or breakdowns.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform rectification of MHE breakdowns and provide technical support as needed.
2. Undertake preventative maintenance to high standards within scheduled timeframes, maintaining accurate records in the CMMS, and alerting managers of urgent issues.
3. Demonstrate specialist equipment knowledge and flexibility to facilitate PPMs and breakdown repairs.
4. Work collaboratively within the engineering team to promote best practices and ensure kit reliability.
5. Liaise with manufacturers outside the UK as required.
6. Perform mechanical, electrical, and PLC fault diagnosis on various system types.
7. Achieve departmental and site SLA and KPI targets.
8. Provide engineering support to meet performance and manufacturer standards, ensuring full production schedules are maintained.
9. Maintain cleanliness and organization in engineering areas, disposing of scrap appropriately.
10. Record all parts used or removed during reactive or planned jobs in the departmental systems.
11. Adhere to hygiene standards at all times.
12. Support process control procedures and keep documentation updated and accessible.
13. Recommend modifications to improve equipment reliability.
14. Provide continuous technical support to production and engineering teams for daily issues.
15. Assist in planning maintenance, modifications, and fault rectification work.
16. Coordinate with external contractors and suppliers for specialized support.
Skills and Experience:
1. Apprentice-trained in mechanical or electrical disciplines with a recognized apprenticeship.
2. ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
4. Experienced in mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis.
5. Knowledge of PLC control systems, preferably Siemens.
6. Physically capable of climbing and working at heights up to 25 meters.
7. Understanding of safe working practices.
8. Strong comprehension of technical manuals and drawings in mechanical, electrical, and electronic domains.
9. On-the-job experience with site systems and practices.
10. Possession of BS:7671 Rev 2011 17th Edition wiring regulations (preferable).
11. Minimum qualification of BS 2360 Level 3 electrical installation and construction (preferable).
12. Experience working in an automated warehouse environment.
13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
14. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
