Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Contract: Part-Time, permanent
Starting Salary: Base salary of £, pro rata (£, FTE) per annum with the potential to earn up to £, with sleep-in shifts
Salary after probation: Same as starting salary
Apple Orchard has five homes in Surrey and West Sussex. Each home is set in a rural location and offers a comfortable, homely environment for young males aged - years. We are seeking experienced Residential Childcare Support Workers and welcome those passionate about making a positive impact on young people, willing to undertake relevant training and qualifications.
Our aim is to help young people understand their experiences to move on from their traumatic past. We support them by providing clear boundaries and achievable goals, including positive reinforcement strategies such as reward charts and free time.
We emphasize high levels of nurturing to meet all basic needs, creating a warm, friendly atmosphere that fosters supportive relationships and positive attachments.
Duties and responsibilities:
* Provide a caring, motivating environment tailored to individual developmental needs
* Plan and prepare activities that meet needs and promote learning and integration
* Stay informed of legislation, policies, and standards to ensure compliance with the Children’s Act, Ofsted guidance, and regulations
* Observe, assess, and record young people's progress and achievements accurately
* Collaborate with local authorities to ensure outstanding care
* Establish positive relationships with parents/carers to support development
* Be flexible in work practices, including domestic tasks like cooking, cleaning, and shopping
* Work with the team to fulfill the home's philosophy
* Maintain clear, legible records distinguishing fact, opinion, and third-party info
Essential skills:
* Experience working with teenage boys or challenging behavior; willingness to develop skills further
* Valid driving license and access to a vehicle; public transport may not be viable due to rural location
* Qualifications such as Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or willingness to work towards one
* Willingness to engage young people in activities, guiding them towards independence and adulthood
* Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends; shift work with every other weekend off
* Ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, set firm boundaries, and meet individual needs
* Teamwork skills
* Ability to follow instructions and policies
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Active listening and engagement skills
