At Birmingham City University, we are committed to delivering an outstanding, inclusive and transformative student experience. As part of Student and Academic Services, you will join a Directorate at the heart of an ambitious transformation programme, reshaping how we work to provide efficient, effective and student-centred services. We are now seeking an International Student Experience Advisor to play a pivotal role in enhancing the journey of our international students, working within the Induction and Community team and collaborating widely across the University and beyond.
The primary objective of this role is to enrich the experience of international students from applicant and pre-arrival stages through to graduation. You will bring a deep understanding of the international student lifecycle and use this insight to lead and contribute to projects, initiatives, workshops and events that enable students to thrive academically, socially and culturally within a UK higher education context. Through a proactive, data-informed approach, you will identify barriers to engagement and design targeted interventions that drive measurable improvements in student experience and outcomes.
Key responsibilities include developing strong collaborative relationships across Student and Academic Services and with colleagues in areas such as academic schools, careers, and the Students' Union to coordinate impactful activity. You will design and deliver initiatives that support students in adapting to life and study in the UK, promote awareness of key milestones and services, and ensure students are connected to support both within the University and across the city. The role also involves analysing feedback and performance data, contributing to the review and enhancement of student support processes and communications, producing accessible guidance materials, delivering staff training, representing the team on committees, and working with external partners to ensure support is culturally responsive and aligned to student needs.
We are looking for a proactive, collaborative and student-focused professional, ideally with experience of supporting international students in a higher education setting. You will demonstrate strong project management and organisational skills, the ability to analyse and interpret data to inform decision-making, and excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage a wide range of stakeholders. A sound understanding of the challenges faced by international students, knowledge of UK higher education systems, and a commitment to inclusive practice are essential. In return, you will join a forward-thinking team dedicated to shaping an exceptional experience for our diverse global community.
