Overview

Tutor in Modern Languages (German) 0.3 FTE role at School of Arts, Culture and Language, Bangor University.

This is a temporary part-time post (0.3 FTE) based in the School of Arts, Culture and Language. The successful candidate will deliver existing validated undergraduate modules in German, including development of teaching resources and marking assignments. The post is to commence around 15 September 2025, or as close as possible to that date to allow settling before teaching starts the week of 29 September 2025. Closing date: 07-09-2025.

Responsibilities

* To teach at undergraduate levels, plan, prepare and deliver teaching and assessment, and respond to diverse student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
* Motivate students to engage actively in learning and provide meaningful, constructive feedback on their work.
* Keep abreast of developments in the delivery of the German language curriculum. Specific duties include planning, preparing and delivering teaching on a range of undergraduate German-language modules totalling approximately 10 hours per week, including conversation classes.
* Design, mark and provide feedback on assessments for the above modules.
* Ensure suitable materials are available via Blackboard to support student learning on the listed modules.
* As required, design and deliver appropriate sessions with students across the year.
* To undertake marking of undergraduate assessments and preparation of associated materials, including preparation of marks for examination boards.
* To provide academic support to undergraduate students.
* To work collaboratively with the wider teaching team and Head of Department for the administration of programmes in Modern Languages.


Administrative and Wider Contribution Duties

* Contribute to the administration of German Language elements of the BA Modern Languages programmes (e.g., managing assessment processes and liaising with External Examiners).
* Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School.

* General duty of care for health, safety and wellbeing; comply with health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.
* Comply with relevant legal and financial policies and be aware of responsibilities under the legal requirements of the post.


Qualifications/Training

Essential

* A good undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area.

Desirable

* Masters qualification in a relevant subject area.
* PhD (or close to completion), in a relevant subject area. Teaching qualification or HEA membership.


Experience/Knowledge

Essential

* Effective teaching capability in Modern Languages or cognate subject areas.
* Successful experience of supporting undergraduate students to develop their learning at appropriate levels.
* Demonstrate knowledge and interest in specific areas related to the post.

Desirable

* Experience of small group teaching and language teaching.
* Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.


Skills/Abilities

* Fluent German speaker with excellent language skills.
* Ability to deliver exciting, inclusive approaches to teaching.
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Excellent verbal and written skills.
* Demonstrable IT skills as required (e.g., VLE and other learning technologies).
