Job Description
Be part of the Environment Agency’s mission to drive net‑zero through effective regulation of the energy sector. We are looking for an experienced energy regulator for a fixed‑term role up to 2 years, who can support the decarbonisation of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
The role offers flexible working arrangements and is open to candidates from all backgrounds.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support, technical leadership, advice, guidance and training to internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Develop sector strategy and produce regulatory tools to support environmental outcomes.
* Commission, manage and report on external research projects where required.
* Work closely with Defra, DESNZ, trade associations, internal operations and other industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate. We lead on the definition of standards for the energy sector, delivering strategic direction, training and environmental best practice.
Experience & Skills
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and encourage consideration of diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries, including control measures for air emissions.
* Strong stakeholder‑management skills: building relationships with operators, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Teamplayer: able to work collaboratively to achieve common goals.
