About us

The Hunslet Club is a well-established youth organisation in South Leeds, providing a wide range of sports, arts, recreational activities and education for young people and families. We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join our team and help maintain our facilities to a high standard.

Job Title /Facilities Caretaker

Reporting to Director of Operations & Youth Services

Location The Hunslet Club, Hillidge Road, Leeds, LS10 1BP and Hunslet Club Sports village

Salary £26,000 full time per annum.

Role Maintaining the Club premises and grounds including security, pitches, utilities and general maintenance repairs of the club and The Oval (rugby club)

Key Responsibilitiea

Ensure the building and grounds are safe, secure, and well-maintained.

Requirements

* Previous caretaking, maintenance, or facilities experience desirable.
* Practical skills in basic repairs, DIY, and general upkeep.
* Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
* Commitment to safeguarding and ensuring a safe environment for young people

Security/H&S

* Opening/closing of the premises/shutters (including activating/de-activating of alarm)
* Ensure building secured – windows and doors are closed/locked before locking up
* Check security of building when alarm goes off unexpectedly
* Inspections of fire exits to ensure closed and access is not obstructed
* Carry out a fire alarm test every week at and record outcome in Fire Log Book
* Facilitate fire drills every 6 months
* To monitor and undertake checks in relation to water hygiene and emergency lighting

Pitches

* Manage the initial marking and over marking of the sport pitches and ensure pitches are maintained to the highest standards at all times
* Carry out any maintenance required to the fencing surrounding pitches
* Give permission for the erection/dismantling of any sports equipment used on the pitches
* Take care of the pitches using the ride-on mower including its maintenance

Utilities

* Switch on/off heating & lighting each day/night ensuring lights are turned off when not in use
* Manage the economic use of utilities at all times through weekly checks – report meter readings at the end of each month
* Liaise with external contractors when servicing equipment

General Maintenance

* Carry out minor repairs within the premises in line with appropriate health & safety guidelines. The following are examples of general maintenance tasks and not an exhaustive list:
* Electrical – replace plugs, fuses, lightbulbs, fluorescent tubes etc
* Plumbing – replace tap washers, remove blockages, maintain toilet overflow system, etc
* Joinery – hang pictures/other display materials, fitting of doors/locks, sanding down of surfaces
* Undertake temporary repairs to broken windows/doors
* Repair minor breaks in vinyl/carpet/wooden floors to prevent it becoming a hazard
* Replace/secure broken or rising floor tiles/ceiling tiles
* Small painting jobs – internal & external and any painting jobs
* Keep thoroughfares/ footpaths/pitches clear of litter/debris at all times
* Remove leaves and other debris from gutters & fall pipes & drains to ensure effective system flows
* To carry out gritting, salt spreading, snow clearing
* Remove & re-hang curtains, including fixing/repairing of fittings
* Ensure external bins are emptied
* Events - Help with the set up and taking down of equipment/tables etc

General

* Contribute to the wider life of The Hunslet Club
* Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the post or which may from time to time be reasonably determined by the Chief Executive Officer
* Adhere to Club policies at all times, with particular reference to Health & Safety, Equal Opps & Child Protection

The Hunslet Club reserve the right to vary or amend the duties and responsibilities of the post holder at any time in accordance to the needs of the business

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £12.50 per hour
