Tutor of Employability Skills (Skills Centre) Ref: 2526/113 Hours: 37 per week (1.0 fte) Salary: Up to £43,408 per annum* (please see salary guidance attached). Plus generous benefits. These include: • 57 days annual leave per year (including bank holidays and efficiency closures) • Generous Occupational Pension Scheme • Financial support towards teacher training course fees if you do not have a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE) *Progression beyond point 12 of the salary scale (£40,407) is subject to Tutors obtaining QTLS. Staff with Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) via the Society for Education and Training (SET) are eligible to receive an enhanced salary of £44,875 - please see attached salary guidance for further details. About the role We have an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Employability Skills Tutor to join our Inclusive Education curriculum in the Skills Centre as we look to grow our provision to support more students to transition into the wider college community, employment or onto apprenticeships. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, learner-focused Tutor to deliver engaging employability and personal development programmes to students who are at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training).This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who face barriers to education, training, or employment, helping them build confidence, essential skills, and positive pathways into work, apprenticeships, or further learning. Key Responsibilities include: • Plan and deliver inclusive, engaging employability sessions covering areas such as: o Workplace behaviours and expectations o Communication and teamwork o Confidence, motivation, and resilience o CV writing, job search skills, and interview preparation • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learner needs, including those with SEND, social/emotional barriers, or low prior attainment • Build positive, professional relationships with learners to promote attendance, engagement, and progression • Monitor learner progress, set targets, and maintain accurate records in line with funding and quality requirements • Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and external support services to support learner outcomes • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times About the Person The ideal candidate will be a passionate, innovative and forward-thinking teacher, who is highly motivated to improve the chances of young people, particularly those who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education or employment. You will create engaging and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high quality teaching, learning and assessment, adapting your delivery to motivate students with varying needs and confidence levels. An Assessor or IQA qualification would be desirable but is not essential. The position requires enthusiasm, resilience, the ability to manage challenging behaviour in a supportive and restorative way and most importantly a commitment to the student journey. About the College We are a large, regional college serving a population across York and North Yorkshire of more one million people. Each year, we have approximately 4,000 school leavers, 1,000 apprentices, 2,000 adult students, and 400 higher-level students studying with us. Our wide range of education options span entry level programmes through to degrees, higher technical qualifications, and accredited professional courses to courses for professional development. Our apprenticeships can be studied from level 2 to level 5 across a range of different career pathways. We are the largest provider of A-Level and vocational programmes for school leavers in the region; we offer nearly 35 A-Level subjects and over 80 vocational courses, including a wide range of T-Level pathways.
