NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate has an opportunity for an outstanding individual to undertake the role of Pharmacy Operations and Logistics Manager for a 12 month period, to lead and transform the delivery of medicines supply services across NHS Fife.

NHS Fife is currently undergoing significant transformation across all of its services. The safe, efficient and timely supply of medicines is a key priority of the Hospital Pharmacy Transformation Programme. This post requires an exceptional leader who has strategic vision and the ability to manage complex change, working under the strategic direction and leadership of the Head of Pharmacy—Medicines Supply and Quality.

You will lead a portfolio covering a range of technical pharmacy services (aseptic and traditional dispensing services, homecare medicines, medicines procurement and supply, vaccines supply) to patients across acute services, community and mental health hospitals and primary care.

This post would suit a registered pharmacist or pharmacy technician (educated to degree level) with significant experience of pharmacy operations and logistics, as well as management of dispensing services in hospital or community pharmacy. You will have experience of managing staff, resources and delivering change and quality improvement. A proven leader with excellent knowledge of medicines supply chain, governance and legislation, as well as excellent communication skills.

This role will also provide senior leadership input to both the Medicines Supply and extended Pharmacy Leadership teams ensuring operational and strategic priorities are delivered in line with department, Board and national priorities.

You will be supported by a forward‑thinking and inspiring pharmacy team, who are committed to transforming the NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Service for the people of Fife. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people and is provided by a team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses and Administrators. The team operates across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.

As part of our staff engagement and leadership, our Pharmacy Senior Leadership hold monthly staff briefing sessions to update the team on new developments, celebrate achievements and to engage with our staff.

Fife has something to offer everyone and has excellent transport links, being only 30 minutes to an hour from all major cities.

Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here. If you do not have approval for a secondment from your current line manager, you will not be able to progress your application for a fixed‑term post. External applicants, with continuous NHS Service, must also have a secondment agreement from their existing board to apply for this post.

For an informal discussion, please contact Claire Steele, Head of Pharmacy Medicines Supply and Quality (claire.steele@nhs.scot) or Fiona Forrest, Acting Director of Pharmacy and Medicines via MS Teams or (fiona.forrest@nhs.scot).

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.
