Plumbing & Heating Mechanical Engineer

Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the role of Estates Plumbing & Heating Mechanical Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with Facilities Managers, Estates Leadership, Electrical and Building Officers, and clinical staff to install, maintain, service, and repair specialist healthcare equipment, including domestic and commercial gas boilers.
* Provide technical diagnosis and fault‑finding on plant and equipment.
* Deliver technical assistance, instruction, and training to Maintenance Craftsmen and Workers on complex issues.
* Provide out‑of‑hours cover as part of the Estates On‑Call rota.
* Work physically and in challenging environments; demonstrate flexibility and a proactive approach.
Qualifications & Experience
* Good standard of general education.
* Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship or formally certified training programme, supported by significant experience.
* Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent, plus additional training and developed skills.
* Membership of the Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme (WIAPS) or Gas Safe registered.
* Engineering experience in a maintenance or service healthcare environment.
* Completed a recognised maintenance training scheme or an appropriate City & Guilds certificate/NVQ.
Managerial/Supervisory Experience
* Ability to motivate others in service delivery and quality improvement initiatives.
* Ability to act as technical lead for practical training of semi‑skilled staff and apprentices.
* Experience of engineering in a healthcare maintenance environment.
* Communicate with clarity and confidence in demanding situations.
* Plan, facilitate, and evaluate activities to meet departmental needs and objectives.
* Gas Safe Registered.

Employment in this post requires a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; the Trust will cover the cost.
£32,073 to £39,043 a year plus R&R payment £3,500 annually and on‑call allowance 4.5% salary.
