Main duties of the job
This post will be ideal for trainees who are completing Core Training and looking for additional experience in obstetrics and ICU and can be counted as a CT3 ‘top-up’ year. You will be allocated an educational supervisor and we will ensure that you are supported in developing the clinical and non-clinical aspects of your CV. The Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at DCH has a longstanding reputation as a supportive environment for training in anaesthesia and ICM.
Previous experience in anaesthesia is required for this post, initial assessment of competence (IAC) required, ideally 24 months experience but other applicants with less experience will be considered. An anaesthetist competent in obstetrics anaesthetics (i.e. achieved initial assessment of obstetric competency, IAOC) would be desirable but not necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Full registration with the GMC is essential.
Successful candidates will be appointed at ST3+ level according to their previous experience and competence. This post will include daytime and night time cover of the Intensive Care Department.
The successful applicant will join the dynamic, progressive, forward thinking Anaesthetic Department. You would join a young and enthusiastic team providing anaesthetic services for all surgical specialities excluding cardiac and neurosurgery. The successful applicant will be expected to fully participate in the general running of the anaesthetic services including a sessional commitment to Intensive Care.
The department is dedicated to supporting the development of their doctors and therefore study time and funding is available to successful applicant.

Education
Essential criteria
* Medical Degree (full GMC registration with a licence to practice is required)
* Postgraduate training in anaesthesia of at least one year essential
* APLS/ATLS/ALS Certification
Experience
Essential criteria
* Clinical experience in Anaesthetics & Critical Care equivalent to the end of core training CT1/2
* Evidence of good oral and written communication skills.
* Evidence of case mix and numbers anaesthetised.
* Experience of multidisciplinary working.
* Must have worked in the UK ideally for minimum 1 year.
Skills
Essential criteria
* Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff
* Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
Audit
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of medical and clinical audit principles and evidence of direct involvement in medical audit in the last 18 months.
Research
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of principles of scientific research.
