Trade & Sanctions Lawyer (3–8 PQE)

A leading global law firm is seeking a talented Trade & Sanctions Associate (3–8 PQE) to join its highly regarded international trade and shipping practice in London.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a market-leading team advising a global client base on complex, high-profile sanctions and trade compliance matters, often at the cutting edge of geopolitical developments.
The Role
You will advise a broad range of clients including insurers, shipowners, charterers, financial institutions, brokers, and commodities traders on:
* UK, EU, and US sanctions regimes (including OFAC-related matters)
* Sanctions investigations, disclosures, and enforcement actions
* Risk assessments and compliance programme development
* Drafting and negotiating sanctions protections in commercial and financing agreements
* Due diligence in transactional and operational contexts
The role also offers exposure to a wide range of contentious and non-contentious shipping and trade matters, including:
* Charterparties, bills of lading, and P&I club issues
* Trade disputes and High Court / arbitration proceedings
* Casualty-related investigations and advisory work
* Commercial contract drafting across transportation and logistics
The Candidate
* 3–8 years’ PQE from a leading international or specialist firm
* Strong experience in trade sanctions, export controls, or international regulatory compliance
* Exposure to shipping, commodities, or broader international trade work is highly desirable
* Experience advising on OFAC or cross-border sanctions regimes is a strong advantage
* A commercially minded lawyer with strong client-handling skills
* Ability to work on urgent, complex, and high-stakes matters
