The Opportunity Roke provides technology innovation and consultancy to a variety of military users and are seeking a talented and motivated Systems Engineer to support the design, development, and sustainment of complex defence systems. In this role, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to help deliver secure, robust, and compliant solutions across the system lifecycle—from requirements analysis to integration, validation and verification. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals early in their engineering career who want to develop strong systems engineering skills across multiple technical roles. Job Purpose & Key Responsibilities As a System Engineer your responsibilities will include: Support requirements capture, analysis, and traceability using recognised systems engineering processes. Assist in system design, modelling, and documentation, from concept through to build. Contribute to integration, verification, and validation activities. Support configuration control, versioning, and technical documentation to required defence standards. Support risk assessments and engineering change processes. Participate in system testing, troubleshooting, and issue investigation under supervision. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (software, hardware, security, operations). Ensure compliance with relevant standards where applicable. Follow secure working practices and contribute to a strong safety, security, and quality culture. Essential skills include Foundation knowledge of systems engineering principles (e.g., V‑Model, lifecycle management). Awareness of cyber‑secure system design principles. Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Effective communicator and willing team contributor. Ability to work within regulated, documentation‑heavy environments. Willingness to learn and develop, adapting to emerging business needs. Ideally you will have experience in some of the following: Familiarity with systems modelling or requirements management tools (DOORS, Enterprise Architect etc.) and the application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field. MOD or defence-domain awareness (work experience, academic projects, etc.) including Military Communication and Information Systems.
