Founded as a spin-out from Cambridge University in 2017 with the aim of transferring the technology from the academic lab into a commercial entity, we have grown from one site in Somersham, Cambridgeshire, and three employees to a team of over 100 people, with an additional production facility in Huntingdon and global sales teams promoting Paragraf.


The Role

This role focuses on developing and maintaining automated test equipment to ensure the high quality and performance of our products. You will guide projects through requirements elicitation, design, development, testing, release, and support. Outside of testing, you will leverage your experience to create robust and efficient solutions to assist other areas of the company, driving best practices and industry standards. Solutions will involve multidisciplinary collaboration across skills and departments.


Responsibilities & Tasks

* Design and develop internal software using programming languages such as Python, C#, C++, or LabView to support manufacturing and testing of graphene electronics.
* Support the development of automated test equipment by writing software for hardware communication, motion control, and data acquisition.
* Support integration of production systems (MES/ERP) with internal software applications via API development.
* Design and manage Microsoft SQL databases for test data storage, manufacturing tracking, and system configuration.
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and data engineers throughout system development and production.
* Troubleshoot software and hardware system issues.
* Maintain effective communication with cross-functional stakeholders to gather and align on software requirements.
* Own solution project plans and report progress to management.
* Proactively implement CI/CD and testing best practices, providing documentation and frameworks.
* Manage Git repositories, including permissions and workflows.
* Manage workload and line management responsibilities as needed.
* Promote understanding of software design principles for maintainable code.
* Continuously seek automation opportunities to improve efficiency.
* Deliver quick wins and adapt to changing priorities.
* Think critically to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
* Work autonomously on fast-paced, high-output projects.
* Embrace challenges and seek new opportunities beyond initial scope.


Requirements

Education and Qualifications

* Degree in computer science or equivalent software development experience.

Experience

* Developing software in Python, C#, C++, LabView, SQL with a focus on maintainability and testability.
* Creating internal software solutions for data acquisition, processing, modeling, and visualization.
* At least 3 years experience in automated test equipment software development for manufacturing and system integration.
* Experience working with cross-functional teams on instrumentation and tools design and delivery.
* Proficiency with Git version control.
* Experience with agile workflows and tools like Jira.
* Designing and maintaining relational database architectures.
* Supporting development within an NPD framework with top-level technical summaries.
* Experience in a fast-paced R&D environment.
* Ability to face challenges and adapt.


Preferred Skills

* Experience with production system configuration/development (e.g., MES/ERP).
* Familiarity with Scrum framework.


Communication

* Excellent communication skills, confident in contributing ideas to senior management.
* Ability to communicate technical information clearly and report status effectively.
