About the Role & Company

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our team at our Farmhouse Fare manufacturing site in Clitheroe. This is a fully onsite position, offering the opportunity to play a key leadership role within a fast-paced food production environment.
As Technical Manager, you will be accountable for all aspects of food safety, quality, and compliance, ensuring products meet legal standards and exceed customer expectations. You will lead the Technical function on site, act as the main point of contact for customers and auditors, and support operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & Quality
1. Lead the HACCP team and ensure all documentation is current and effective
2. Maintain and improve the Quality Management System
3. Ensure compliance with BRC Global Standard for Food Safety
4. Manage allergen controls and ensure legal compliance across all production
Hygiene & Standards
5. Lead and develop the site hygiene team
6. Maintain exceptional hygiene and housekeeping standards
7. Manage hygiene budgets and supplier relationships
Customer & Audit Management
8. Act as the primary technical contact for customers, auditors, and regulatory bodies
9. Lead customer audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented
10. Attend customer meetings and product tastings
Continuous Improvement & Projects
11. Support CI and Lean Manufacturing initiatives
12. Lead product quality improvement projects
13. Work cross-functionally with Operations, NPD, and senior leadership
Leadership & Team Development
14. Lead, coach, and develop the Technical/QA team
15. Manage recruitment, performance, and training
16. Drive a culture of accountability, development, and high performance
Systems & Budget Management
17. Manage the Technical department budget
18. Maintain systems such as Hamilton Grant and Qadex
19. Support wider group financial and operational objectives
About You
Qualifications & Experience
20. Degree in Food Science (or related discipline)
21. Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar role
22. Strong background in chilled food manufacturing
Skills & Attributes
23. Strong leadership and people management skills
24. Excellent knowledge of food safety legislation and standards
25. Experience managing audits and customer relationships
26. Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused
27. Committed to continuous improvement and high-quality standards
What You’ll Be Responsible For
28. Leading the Technical and QA teams
29. Managing the Technical budget
30. Ensuring site-wide compliance and food safety
31. Authority to halt production if standards are not met
32. Driving improvements across systems, processes, and products
Working Conditions
33. Based onsite at our Clitheroe factory (this is not a remote role)
34. Occasional travel to other sites, suppliers, and customers
35. Some overnight stays may be required
