We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established national insurance provider for a Development Underwriter based in Scotland. This is a home-based, market-facing role with a clear focus on broker development and new business generation across the Scottish commercial marke
t.

ok.
You will work with real underwriting authority, a defined product suite covering commercial P&C risks, and full support from an experienced central team. The expectation is that you bring the market knowledge, the broker contacts and the commercial drive — the business provides the platform, the capacity and the back
ing.
What You’ll Be
Doing
This is a dual-mandate role: you will be responsible for both developing new broker relationships and managing the existing book in Scotland. Day to day that
* means:
Building new relationships with commercial insurance brokers across Scotland, including both national groups and independent
* brokersUnderwriting commercial P&C risks within your delegated authority, covering the SME and mid-market
* segmentManaging existing broker accounts, ensuring strong service levels and retention of the current po
* rtfolioIdentifying and pursuing new business opportunities across the Scottish broker
* marketWorking collaboratively with the wider regional and national underwriti
* ng teamRepresenting the business in the market with professionalism and technical cred
ibility
The split of your time will be weighted towards new business development, with the expectation that you are proactive, visible and well-connected in the Scottish commercial broking
market.

We are looking for a commercially minded underwriter who combines technical ability with genuine broker relationship skills. The right candidate will be someone who is motivated by what they build, not just by what they are given
* to manage.
Solid experience in commercial P&C underwriting, ideally within the SME or mid-mar
* ket segmentAn established network of broker contacts in Scotland — national and / or
* independentBackground from a composite insurer, MGA or similar underwriting
* environmentTechnically capable of underwriting a broad range of commercial P&C risks with confidence a
* nd autonomySelf-motivated and comfortable working in a home-based, field-
* facing roleStrong communication and relationship management skills — you are someone brokers enjoy working wit
* h and trustA track record of generating new business, not just managing what is al
ready there
