Deputy Director of People – OD, Leadership & Culture

We are seeking an exceptional leader to join East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as Deputy Director of People – Organisational Development, Leadership & Culture. This is a pivotal senior management role, supporting the Director of People in delivering a high-quality, professional HR service across the Trust.

The post-holder will lead on strategic programmes and initiatives designed to ensure our workforce is engaged, well-supported, well-led, and highly motivated. You will drive transformation through the development and implementation of Leadership Development, Culture, Talent Management, and Organisational Development strategies, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent and enabling our people to deliver the Trust's objectives.


Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the design and delivery of organisational development strategies that foster a culture aligned with the Trust's vision and values.
* Oversee leadership development programmes, talent management processes, and initiatives that support workforce engagement and retention.
* Drive cultural transformation to instil clinical, professional, and managerial excellence with sensitivity to individual needs.
* Provide corporate leadership for Organisational Development, Leadership, and Culture functions.
* Ensure the Trust understands its workforce and implements effective support mechanisms, including child and family care services.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.


Qualifications

* Educated to Masters level with a relevant qualification of equivalent level of knowledge and experience at senior leadership level.
* Evidence of leadership development and proven ability to perform at this level
* Extensive knowledge and expertise across a number of subject areas within the OD, Leadership and Culture
* Evidence of substantial continuing professional and personal development, including professional management training, strategic planning and performance, people management, budget management, and service development.
* Member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development


Experience

* An expert knowledge in leadership and management development generally and in relation to NHS policy and best practice
* Extensive experience working at senior management level in a health or social care organisation.
* Ability to utilise evidence-based research to inform initiatives and decision making.
* Considerable experience of development and applying workforce and OD Leadership & Culture strategies and interventions in large complex organisations.
* Proven experience of successful achievement of leading change across services.
* Proven experience on the use of evidence-based research
* Experience of managing budgets and achievement of recurrent efficient savings
* Experience of analysing, commissioning, designing, delivering, and evaluating a range of complex workforce development interventions that support organisational and individual development in a large, complex organisation.
* A clear understanding of the psychological contract and how this relates to workforce motivation and engagement.
* Work experienced gained in other environments e.g. third sector, commercial.


Skills

* Communicates in a highly effective manner across a wide range of mediums to create positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
* Strategic and business planning - ability to think and plan strategically, tactically, and creatively and gain agreement to relevant plans and to implement plans through service delivery.
* Advanced IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Excellent presentation skills, ability to give high level presentations to Board level and on behalf of the organisation to other organisations.
* Ability to analyse complex information and develop potential options and / or recommendations on the most appropriate course of action.
* Ability to engage, negotiate with and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to quickly establish credibility and respect at all levels.
* Ability to respond positively in a rapidly changing environment.
* Able to describe a vision of the improvements the work they lead will bring to the organisation and have an ability to inspire others to follow their vision.
* Politically astute and able to respond to the often-competing agendas required in a large complex organisation with integrity and professionalism.

£91,342 to £105,337 a yearper annum, pro rata
