This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy and dynamic multidisciplinary inpatient service at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where the successful candidate will work closely with the Administrator, Ward Manager and Nursing team in providing top-tier housekeeping support for the National Psychosis Unit.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work as an integral part of the ward team and be responsible for thecoordinationofallclientfacilitiesservicesinthewardareaensuringaclean,safeandcomfortableenvironment.
The main elements of the role are ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of cleaning, catering,maintenanceand laundry, together with other specified tasks to meet individual client needs asdeterminedbythewardmanager and shiftcoordinator to ensure the seamless delivery of high-quality inpatient care and service management. Creative and dynamic ways of working are desirable as we are always looking to evolve the service and improve the service we provide.
Strong organisational skills and diligent oversight of the ward environment are required as the postholder will be required to work closely with contractors and support service departments to monitorqualitystandards,reportdeficienciesandensurerequestedworkiscompleted.
The postholder will be based on the ward and within the nursing offices and will work closely with the nursing team and patient group, therefore strong interpersonal and communication are essential to work effectively and sensitively with a diverse range of patients and professionals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Cleaning
To carry out Quality Audits in all areas of the ward reporting directly back to the domestic supervisorandwardmanager.
Toensurespillagesaredealtwithswiftlyandefficiently.
To ensure the ward is always safe and tidye.g. remove clutter, tidy notice boards and removeanyoldinformation.
Liaise with the domestic department for arranging deep cleaning of surfaces and furnishings,informingthemwhenbedroomsneedtobecleanedfollowingdischarges.
Catering
To ensure the daily menu is displayed correctly.
Assist clients in ordering food and where necessarytaking into account special needs and dietaryrequirements; informing catering suppliers of special dietary needs for individual clients and requesting extra meal requirements that may arise.
To update catering with requirements for special diets. To co-ordinate extra meal requirements thatmayarise.
Ensure the dining area is a pleasant environment and tables are laid with condiment pots, cutleryandcrockerywhereappropriate.
Toensurethewardkitchenisalways kept clean and tidyand report any issues with equipment/cleanliness.
Order hardware, crockery and cutlery and monitortheuseofthese.
Laundry
Oversea the ward linen’s supply, including weekly ordering.
Contact laundry when supplies are running low.
Keep linen and laundry room tidy. Assist clients in obtaining clean laundrywhenrequired.
MaintainingtheEnvironment
To manage the words, work requisition log ensuring all defects are logged, reported, recordedandclosedasappropriate.
To co-ordinate other ad-hoc maintenance, liaising with Facilitiesdepartmente.g. curtainhanging/cleaning,wall washing,pestcontrol.
To respect the privacy and dignity of clients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties.
Organise thestorageofclients’propertyincludingcontactingclientsaboutpropertyleftontheward.
Beresponsibleforkeepingthesluiceroomandstorageareastidy.
HealthandSafety
To support the Ward manager in maintaining Health and Safety requirements on the ward inaccordance with the Trust Health & Safety Policy and to follow up as required.
Record all Health &SafetyauditsonAssessnet.
To carry out spot checks of the environment.
Administrative Duties
To support with the organisation of patient records and ward information in accordance with the Data Protection Act, including scanning and uploading patient records to clinical systems and electronic patient recording systems.
To ensure ward notice and display boards are kept up to date and well presented.
To support with answer phones in the nursing office, responding to telephone queries and liaising with relevant members of the team.
Ensure the ward diary is kept accessible and up to date, bring appointment letters to attention of nursing staff
Monitor stock levels of clinical and stationery supplies for the unit and order these via e-procurement and put them away when delivered
Take notes at monthly patient community meetings
General

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Relevant skills acquired through appropriate training or experience.
Experience

2. Administrative/office experience acquired in NHS or other office environment.
3. Experience of using MS Teams, Word, Excel.

4. Experience of working in a mental health service and/or vulnerable adults
5. Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team

6. Knowledge of food and hygiene standards and Health & Safety legislation.
7. Willingness to learn how to use new databases, patient information systems etc.
