Overview
Applications are invited for a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+ in Microbiology. The post will commence as soon as possible (ASAP). This post offers the opportunity to develop general registrar level skills and possibly more advanced skills for those interested and those doctors with the appropriate experience to do so.
General duties (guideline)
* Appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant to his/her charge. Co-responsibility for the proper functioning of the Microbiology department, including the supervision of more junior medical staff.
* Participation in the Registrar on-call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for a colleague's absence.
* Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions, seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
* Attending sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing procedures as appropriate.
* Running of wards with consultant cover on site during the day and consultant off site after hours.
* Participation in clinical audit and attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate.
* Working within a multidisciplinary team and teaching/training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
* Communication with other team members and coordinating medical disciplines concerned with care for your specialty.
* Communicating appropriately with general practitioners (GPs) and community agencies.
* Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.
* Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant's care and supervising junior doctors.
* Developing and implementing integrated Microbiology pathways throughout the hospital/trust in conjunction with admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy.
* Participation in relevant audit for the department and quality assurance procedures.
* Adhere to clinical and corporate governance policies of the hospital/trust and GMC Good Medical Practice guidance.
* Maintain up-to-date Microbiology knowledge through Continuous Medical Education for patient care and personal development.
* Be flexible in duties to meet the needs of the department and patient care as decided by the general manager and clinical lead for Microbiology.
* Contribute to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the hospital/trust as appropriate.
* Adhere to hospital/trust procedures (e.g., Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities) and uphold the hospital/trust values: Put Patients First, Take Ownership, Respect Others, Be Positive.
* Maintain personal and professional development to meet changing needs of the job and support staff development and training as appropriate.
* Attend statutory, essential and mandatory training; respect the confidentiality of all employment and staff matters.
Salary, terms and conditions
* Salary: £59,175 - £95,400 per year (not inclusive of extra hours, which are paid in addition to basic salary).
* Contract: Fixed term / Permanent (not Locum).
* Working pattern: Full-time.

Job plan and development
* Job plan to be discussed with the Clinical Lead of Pathology Services and departmental service manager; plans agreed with the doctor and the needs of the Microbiology department.
* The post-holder is expected to keep up-to-date with their area of practice and participate in Continuing Medical Education. The trust supports CPD with time and financial support as appropriate and aligns with GMC revalidation requirements.
* Study leave is available for approved purposes, with time off for study, research, teaching, examinations, and external visits as required; study leave allowance is a maximum of 10 days per annum.
Essential requirements
* IELTS or OET: IELTS overall score 7.5 or OET Grade B for IMG applicants.
* GMC Registration Essential (We can provide guidance if needed).
* Ability to cope with a varying workload.
