Salary £32,048.64 per annum
Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)
Benefits: Company Pension, free on-site parking, on-site canteen, ongoing training and development and access to High Street Shop discounts.

HMP Oakwood is an innovative prison which has been highlighted by HM Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons as an “Impressive institution, with a culture of decency and respect. Driven by courageous leadership, excellent peer-led initiatives and outstanding management of learning and skills provisions.”

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP Oakwood is one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to approximately 2100 Category C male prisoners.

We now have an opportunity for a Programmes Facilitator to join our team at HMP Oakwood. The role is based in a prison and will involve working in groups and one-to-one to deliver a programme to help prisoners understand their behaviours, build positive relationships, improve critical thinking skills and support them to live an offence-free future. The role will work as part of a small team of Group Workers to provide an important rehabilitative service and meet the Government’s ambition of reducing re-offending.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver Accredited Offending Behaviour Programmes in a group or individual basis, following a manual and delivering as designed.
Organise materials for session delivery.
Plan sessions as per the programme requirements and identify ways to deliver the sessions in a responsive way to meet the needs of the participants.
Notify the Treatment Managers and other team members when sessions are unable to run, and complete missed session catch-ups.
Maintain accurate records of assessments and contact with prisoners.
Conduct motivational interviews with prisoners with the aim to engage them in programmes.
Continually motivate and engage future, current and past participants.
Complete post session de-briefs and record accurately any key information from the sessions.
Complete post-programme tasks including writing a record of progress, setting objectives, contributing to post-programme reviews and communicating progress with sentence management team, for each programme participant.
Actively engage in sentence management by liaising with Prison and Community Offender Managers.
Work towards the delivery guidelines outlined within the quality assurance framework, supported by your treatment manager.
Actively engage in supervision provided by treatment and programme management teams.
Engage in continual professional development opportunities supported by your line manager.
Deliver awareness packages to other staff in the establishment.
Maintain boundaries and demonstrate resilience when working with offenders.
Deliver and support delivery of non-accredited programmes and interventions.
Contribute to the security of the prison by compliance with security instructions.
A Programmes Facilitator requires mandatory training. You must pass all required training in order to perform this role. If a training event is failed, management discretion will be used as to whether a second attempt can be made. If a training event is failed twice, your suitability for the role will be formally reviewed and may result in contract termination. You will be unable to pass your probationary period if you do not pass your mandatory training.

The successful candidate must be able to work as part of a team and have a willingness to undertake the necessary training for accredited programmes.

With good written and oral communication skills you will be able to manage a large workload whilst reflecting on your own performance and strive for continuous improvement.

The role can be both demanding and rewarding, and you must be able to maintain boundaries and demonstrate resilience when working with offenders and challenge antisocial behaviour and attitudes appropriately.

Previous experience of facilitating group work with challenging clients and experience of offending behaviour programmes, or working with offenders is desirable but not essential. Knowledge across the following areas would be an advantage; psychological theory particularly of offending, - ‘’what works" literature in relation to reducing risk of reoffending and knowledge of theories of behind violent and/or sexual offending.

If you join us, you can be sure that you’ll find a secure, friendly and professional working environment and be given all the support, training and encouragement you need to build and develop a successful career with us.

We actively encourage applications from all backgrounds and are a fully inclusive employer who aims to support all employees to be their true selves. We are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments for either the role or during the recruitment process.

Please note that these vacancies are subject to a 5-year checkable history and the strict vetting standards set by the business and the Secretary of State for the Home Office and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

You must be eligible to work in the UK, and you will need to provide full details of your employment and education history for the last 5 years as part of the security screening process for this role.
