Overview
Solaris/AIX Infrastructure Engineer – 24/7 Support
Location: Erskine or Newcastle Campus
As an engineer in our 24/7 team, you will provide advanced, out-of-hours technical expertise on Solaris and AIX servers to maintain a high level of support service. You’ll troubleshoot issues, enhance system performance, and ensure excellent service delivery. You’ll help drive the professional development of team members and contribute to process improvements that boost efficiency and customer satisfaction. This role is critical in supporting SLAs and KPIs, especially during emergency support outside standard working hours. This is a shift-based role with nights, weekends, and public holidays on a rotating schedule.
Responsibilities
* Deliver exceptional customer service and act as a primary technical point of contact during out-of-hours emergency support, 24/7
* Support disaster recovery (DR) testing across multiple virtual platforms
* Remediate security vulnerabilities identified by the compliance team
* Perform planned change work during off-hours maintenance windows
* Assist in the setup, configuration, and support of Linux and Windows servers as needed
* Contribute to innovation and development of new or improved infrastructure products and services
* Continuously develop expertise across a wide range of infrastructure technologies
Essential Job Functions
* Provide technical support in infrastructure services, responding to incidents and assisting with operational tasks
* Contribute to successful implementation of infrastructure projects and scheduled assignments
* Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot infrastructure systems for reliability and performance
* Collaborate with team members to improve infrastructure efficiency and solve complex technical challenges
* Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, including incident logs and configuration records
* Apply specialized technical knowledge to address infrastructure issues and ensure rapid resolution
* Follow established best practices and standards to deliver high-quality infrastructure services
* Utilize technical skills to manage and resolve infrastructure incidents effectively
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Demonstrated technical experience within enterprise infrastructure environments
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in Unix-based systems
* Proficiency in shell scripting, system diagnostics, and server administration tools
* Continuous learning mindset, keeping up to date with industry advancements and emerging technologies
Other Qualifications
* Advanced degree in a related field is a plus
* Experience with Oracle Solaris, AIX, or related enterprise Unix platforms
* Familiarity with security standards, compliance, and vulnerability remediation processes
* Experience working in a shift-based or out-of-hours support environment is advantageous
