Job Description Deputy Nursery Manager
Reporting to
Nursery Manager, Group Operations Manager & Director and ensuring that the highest standards of childcare and education are maintained at all times, you will be expected to fulfil the role of a Senior Early Years Practitioner
Main Duties
* Assist the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day management of the nursery ensuring the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage is adhered to at all times
* Deputise for the manager in her absence
* Ensure that the nursery provides quality childcare and education for all individual children this includes ensuring a wide variety of leaning experiences in a safe, secure and caring environment in which they can grow and develop. Ensure all rooms produce and follow monthly/weekly plans as required monthly that teaching and learning is of a high standard.
* To demonstrate current knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and that you comply with all areas of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
* To understand fully, and adhere to the company's policies and procedures at all times
General responsibilities
Help the manager to review all polices and procedures within the Nursery. Recommend any changes as appropriate; always look at what we can do better.
* Check and maintain all areas of the nursery are safe and secure at all times following the Health & Safety policy. This includes ensuring all areas of the nursery are clean tidy and presentable for children, parents & visitors. Ensure all notice boards and displays are up to date and reflect the society in which we live.
* Abide by the Trafford Guidelines, the Statutory Framework for the Early Years & the Elmscot policy on Safeguarding Children, ensuring you have an understanding that safeguarding is everybody's responsibility and that you have a duty to act accordingly and report any concerns. This includes having an up to date knowledge of safeguarding and procedures.
* Help the Nursery Manager to supervise and support all staff to ensure that they fulfil their job role and adhere to the policies and procedures of the nursery.
* Give advice and support to all team members helping to solve staff conflicts and worries, this includes holding team member meeting to address performance concerns ensuring matters are dealt with promptly
* Carry out supervision meetings with members of the team to ensure the team all have the opportunity to raise concerns they may have regarding children in their care and any members of the team.
* Be knowledgeable of how all the rooms run across the nursery, lending your advice and experience when needed. This includes completing peer & room observation's to demonstrate reflective practice and promote best practice at all times
* Act as a good role model, to be supportive and consistent with all staff to develop a strong and committed team and act as a link between the Manager and the team. As member of the management team, you are responsible for motivating the team and helping with the co-ordination of team events.
* Find cover for staff holidays and sickness with prior notice and at short notice, to make sure that the Nursery is fully staffed according to required ratio's so that Nursery is correctly staffed all day.
* Ensure that all staff presents the appropriate image and comply with the nursery dress code/uniform policy at all times.
* Help the Nursery Manager with the ordering of resources as required, keeping in line with set budgets and preferred suppliers.
* Keep yourself informed and up to date on new legislation and changes in childcare practices this includes attending training when required to keep knowledge up to date and current.
* Liaise, along with the Nursery Manager, with Ofsted and other inspecting agencies to develop good working relationships. Promoting multi agency working across the setting.
* Liaise with all the parent's making sure that they know who you are and your role within the Nursery. Making sure yourself and the Manager are aware of any parental problems and that good relationships are built with all families attending the setting
* Deal with all complaints or parents' requests promptly and inform the Nursery Manager of all the details so that they can take the matter further where necessary.
* Become involved with Nursery show rounds, following up enquiries as they are made by prospective parents, informing new customer of availability and potential start dates.
* Make links with the local community, promoting the nursery and helping to maintain the nursery's good reputation.
* Attend and participate in any staff meetings, in-service training and the development.
* Undertake any other duties requested by the Nursery Manager / Owner.
* To communicate changes and problems to the team, making sure that all the team are informed. Take responsibility for working with the team to present a workable solution to any problems to the manager.
* Participate in any fund raising activities.
* Contribute to the nursery newsletter.
* Provide an anti-oppressive and non-discriminatory environment, which combats race, differently able and gender stereotypes, and promote equal opportunities.
* Recruitment new members of the team to the nursery as required, following safer recruitment procedures at all times. This includes sending for references, completing DBS checks and the completion of team inductions.
* Undertake any other duties required by the manager/owners.

Pay: £13.50-£15.00 per hour
