Croydon Health Services NHS Trust is seeking a motivated and experienced Band 6 Midwife to join the Day Assessment Unit (DAU) at Croydon University Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for an autonomous practitioner to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based antenatal triage and assessment care within a busy, fast-paced maternity service.
The successful candidate will be confident in assessing and managing a wide range of antenatal presentations, including reduced fetal movements, hypertensive disorders, suspected rupture of membranes, and complex obstetric needs, with appropriate escalation and safety-netting.
You will work collaboratively with obstetric, midwifery, and multidisciplinary teams to support timely decision-making, admissions, discharge planning, and continuity of care, while also providing leadership, supervision, and support to junior staff and students.

Main duties of the job
* Deliver high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based midwifery care to women and birthing people attending the Day Assessment Unit, ensuring timely assessment, decision-making, escalation, and discharge or admission.
* Undertake comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, including CTG interpretation, venepuncture, cannulation, administration of medications, and referral to obstetric and ultrasound pathways as required.
* Assess and manage a wide range of antenatal presentations, including reduced fetal movements, hypertensive disorders, suspected rupture of membranes, and complex obstetric needs, in line with local and national guidelines.
* Work autonomously while collaborating closely with obstetricians, labour ward teams, community midwives, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and coordinated care.
* Maintain accurate, timely documentation using maternity electronic systems and uphold NMC standards, Trust policies, and maternity safety frameworks.
* Provide clear communication, emotional support, and safety-netting advice, ensuring women and families are fully informed and involved in their care.
* Support and supervise junior staff and students, contribute to audit, risk management, and quality improvement, and act as a professional role model in accordance with Trust values.

The Band 6 Midwife will also contribute to leadership within the unit by supporting junior staff and students, maintaining highquality documentation, participating in audit and quality improvement, and promoting a culture of safety and womancentred care in line with NMC standards, national guidance, and Trust values.
