Base Pay Range

Salary: 42,646.30 – 45,909.27 (all offers will be made at 42,646.30)

Location & Working Pattern

Location: Hybrid (Office based in central Edinburgh)

Full‑time role: 35 hours per week. Flexible working requests accepted from day 1. Hybrid model requires a minimum of one‑third time in the Edinburgh office (approximately two days per week). Working hours can be scheduled between 6 am and 10 pm from home or 7 am to 7 pm in the office.


Job Overview

The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC) resolves public complaints about Scottish lawyers and oversees complaint handling in the legal sector. As a Policy and Engagement Officer, you will shape policy, engage stakeholders, draft reports, and provide briefing to senior staff and the board.

Team

Part of a close, friendly team of around 60 staff, with opportunities to contribute across customer service, policy development, and new ways of working.


Responsibilities

* Shape the organisation’s policy thinking and build understanding of key issues.
* Develop robust policies to govern complaints and regulatory work.
* Conduct horizon scanning, research, and meaningful consultation.
* Build relationships with stakeholders at all levels and manage engagement.
* Draft reports, responses, and public communications.
* Respond to enquiries from politicians, regulators, consumer groups and other bodies.
* Develop policy proposals and recommendations across a range of issues.
* Deliver briefing and policy advice to board members and senior staff.


Candidate Profile

* Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Confident communicator with excellent writing and audience‑tailoring ability.
* Demonstrated experience in policy development and analytical research.
* Ability to quickly understand complex or technical issues.
* Knowledge of regulation, consumer policy, legal or equalities issues is a benefit but not required.


Working Conditions

42 days paid holiday, including public holidays (pro‑rated for less than 35 hours per week). Induction includes additional office days.
