The Greater Cambridge Planning Service is a shared service between Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council. Our multidisciplinary team includes Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, Ecologists, Arboriculturists, Heritage Specialists, and more—working together to create thriving, resilient communities.
We're proud of our reputation for design excellence, with numerous architectural and planning awards to our name. Now, we're looking for a talented Landscape Architect to help us raise the bar even higher.
The Role
The role presents an opportunity to work on a wide variety of planning and development projects from residential projects including urban extensions and new settlements to new lab and office spaces, science parks and projects in Cambridge's historic core.
You'll be part of a fast-paced, collaborative five-person Landscape Team, where your expertise will have an influence on a wide range of projects from strategic landscape planning to detailed design, plant selection and landscape delivery on development sites.
You'll also have a part in shaping the emerging Greater Cambridge Joint Local Plan, ensuring green infrastructure and placemaking remain at the heart of our vision.
What You'll Do
* Evaluate development proposals with a landscape and environmental lens
* Attend pre-application meetings with developers and multidisciplinary teams
* Provide constructive, design guidance for high-quality, sustainable development
* Assess planning applications, including those with LVAs, Design Codes and Outline permissions.
* Support case officers at planning committees
* Monitor landscape and open space delivery in collaboration with the Section 106 team
* Contribute to team development
What You'll Bring
* Graduate to 2+ years' experience in landscape design and planning
* Experience in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) (Grade 5)
* Awareness of sustainable drainage, ecology, and biodiversity systems
* Strong written communication and presentation skills
* A collaborative mindset, enthusiasm and commitment to public sector work

South Cambridgeshire District Council is a four-day week employer. We expect our colleagues to get 100% of their work done, in around 85% of their contracted hours, for 100% of their pay.
