Background
We currently have an opportunity for a Paralegal to join our Cardiff based Court of Protection team.
The Court of Protection team specialises in the management of the property and financial affairs of individuals, typically brain injury survivors who have received large compensation awards, who have been assessed as lacking the capacity required to manage their own financial affairs.
Our Court of Protection team works closely with brain injury survivors, their families and wider support networks to empower our clients and, where necessary, to ensure that important decisions are made in our client's best interests. The team also assists individuals who have capacity with the management of personal injury trusts as well as accepting instructions for 'one off' applications to the Court of Protection.
The role
Duties will include:
* Assisting with court of protection applications
* Liaising with the client and other departments within the firm in relation to conveyancing, employment, private client, and family matters
* Dealing with financial aspects of individual's lives, ensuring appropriate financial advice is received and tax returns are completed.
* Instructing and liaising with professionals including Case Managers and Therapists
* Ensuring that the complex needs of clients are being met in relation to care, accommodation, therapies and equipment
* Setting budgets and ensure that the client's funds last for their lifetime
* Communicating effectively with clients, their families and healthcare professionals
* Assisting with the administration of personal injury trusts.
The role will involve communication with clients via the telephone and in person; therefore, excellent interpersonal skills are essential along with a good telephone manner. You might be expected to travel to meet clients and their families.
The successful candidate will be organised, responsible and a good team player.
This role would ideally suit law graduates or similar academic achievements.
