Job overview

We are looking for cross sectional experienced HCPC registered Radiographer to join the MRI team at the Royal London Hospital.

This post will give you the opportunity to build on your clinical expertise in MRI. Encouragement will be given to staff who wish to pursue post graduate studies in MRI.

The Royal London Hospital MRI Department is currently equipped with two Siemens 1.5T scanners ( brand new Sola and Avanto Fit) and one Siemens brand new 3T Vida scanner. Our new scanners utilised the latest Dot Engine software making them user friendly. In 2024, we benefited from the government funded AI acceleration software making our examination times quicker thereby improving on efficiency and patient experience.

You will need to demonstrate post graduate experience in cross-sectional imaging. The post holder will be involved in training of rotational radiographers in MRI, review and implementation of new scanning protocols in conjunction with the MRI Lead radiographer, MRI superintendent radiographer, MRI clinical specialist, Radiologists and ensuring all staff are aware of the new studies/procedures.

The candidate will be required to work full time on AFC long days rostered across the 7 days Monday-Sunday 08:00-20:00. They are also expected to participate on the MRI 24 hours emergency rota which runs 365days/year.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to provide high quality, effective Imaging services for the MRI department at Royal London Hospital.

The post holder will work closely with radiographers, students and clinical staff of all grades in the safe, prompt and effective imaging of inpatients and outpatients.

MRI is an extremely complex modality requiring a high degree of technical understanding to obtain diagnostic image quality in a wide range of patient presentations.

Skill is required in helping patients to cope with the claustrophobic nature of the MRI environment.

Patients may present unconscious, un-cooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, or with physical and mental disabilities. Some may exhibit anti-social or threatening behaviour. It is necessary to provide empathy and emotional support to the bereaved, terminally ill, injured and traumatised.

The routine working hours for the MRI department at Royal London Hospital are 08:00- 20:00, Monday-Sunday, excluding bank holidays. The unit is moving towards a full long days service including on weekends.

Post holder will be expected to participate in the 24hrs, 7days/week, 365 days a year MRI emergency service for which they will be paid via the AFC out of hours pay rates and is operated on a rota system.

The candidate will be required to work full time on long days rostered across the 7 days Monday-Sunday 08:00-20:00 including some bank holidays.

1. BSc Hons degree in Diagnostic imaging or equivalent
2. Current Health and Care Professions Council registration

4. Band 6 radiographer in general and specialised Imaging procedures and now desires a more focused role in MRI
5. Evidence of CPD, including attendance at relevant short course & study days

7. Good understanding of National regulations relating to MRI, and MHRA safety guidelines.
8. Understanding of Clinical Governance and Health and Safety
