An established and fast-growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to join their commercial and procurement team in Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated procurement professional with at least 2 years’ buying experience to play a key role in supporting major construction and infrastructure projects across London and the South East.
The business delivers complex groundworks, RC frame, infrastructure and civil engineering schemes, working on high-profile developments with a strong reputation for quality, safety and delivery excellence.
The Role Reporting into the Procurement Manager / Commercial Team, the Buyer will be responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with suppliers, managing purchase orders and ensuring projects are supplied efficiently and cost-effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
* Procuring construction materials, plant and subcontract services
* Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
* Negotiating prices, lead times and supply agreements
* Monitoring market trends and supplier performance
* Raising and managing purchase orders
* Ensuring materials are delivered on time and within budget
* Working closely with site teams, commercial teams and suppliers
* Supporting cost-saving initiatives across projects
* Maintaining accurate procurement records and documentation
Requirements
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Buyer / Procurement role
* Experience within construction, civil engineering or groundworks preferred
* Strong negotiation and communication skills
* Commercially aware with excellent attention to detail
* Ability to manage multiple suppliers and deadlines
* Proficient with Microsoft Office and procurement systems
* Full UK driving licence preferred
