This opportunity is ideally suitable for those with A Level / Level 3 qualifications and above as this is a Level 4 apprenticeship equivalent to a first year degree level; however we welcome applications from everyone.


Main duties of the job

You’ll learn a lot working in the NHS but not least in the themed areas below as part of the apprenticeship:

Data Protection

* (i.e. Data Sharing / Processing Agreements and Information Asset Management)

Data Requests

* (i.e. Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information Requests)

Data Breaches

* (i.e. Data incidents breaches of the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA) triad of Information Assets)

Data Security

* (i.e. NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit)

The 19-month Level 4 Apprenticeship will cover all you need to know for this role, and we provide on the job training as well and monthly 1:1 support with your supervisor and team support. So, bring your best self, with an open mind and ideas to help keep us evolving. You can find out more below:

What are we looking for?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, conscientious, and self-motivated person to join our service and the role of Data Protection & Security Co-ordinator at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

We need a person who is flexible and resilient to support the Trust’s and service aims and objectives in relation to compliance with the Data Protection legislation and Freedom of Information Act primarily but not limited too.

For example, you will be responsible and managing a caseload of various tasks and your role will be varied ranging from coordinating the Trusts responses to requests under the Freedom of Information Act, and processing Subject Access Requests / Disclosures for patients, staff, and members of the public in relation to their personal data (redacting where needed) to investigating Data Breaches to help the Trust learn and evolve.

The role goes beyond and the ability to facilitate and review assessments of data privacy, data sharing or processing agreements and provide advice and guidance on breaches of data will all organically grow as you undertake the apprenticeship and training.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a varied role which will require the successful candidate to have excellent IT skills, display a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills when liaising with staff across the Trust. Ensuring the services procedures are followed, reviewed and fed back on to constantly evolve and improve efficiencies for all.

The role requires experience of managing a busy caseload, excellent attention to detail, familiarity with Microsoft Office packages, outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships and communicate well with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The role is agile, and you would be expected to work in such a way with your agile kit (mobile and laptop equipment) to work onsite and from home to suit the service needs or when required by leadership.

Training & Qualifications

* Educated to A-Level / Diploma or demonstrates an equivalent level of experience
* Experience of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
* An understanding of the Data Protection Act / UK GDPR, Freedom of Information and Access to Health Records Legislation
* Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant area (s) - Records Management, Data Retention, Data Protection, Handling Information
* Data Protection Act Qualification


Experience

* Working in a busy office environment and agile
* Experience and / or understanding of Data Protection challenges in a healthcare setting
* Experience of handling patient / public queries
* Knowledge of current Information Governance / Data Protection legislation
* Specialist knowledge of NHS and statutory polices and regulations including UK GDPR, Data Protection Act, Caldicott Principles


Communication and relationship skills

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate specialist / complex issues effectively at all levels
* Able to develop, establish and maintain positive relationships with others both internal and external to the organisation


Analytical and Judgement skills

* Competent IT skills in order to collect and interpret data, present reports and compile simple presentations
* Flexible approach to meet the conflicting demands of the job
* Ability to prioritise own workload autonomously


Planning and organisation skills

* Able to work as part of a team, co-operating to work together and in conjunction with others and willing to help and assist wherever possible and appropriate
* Able to work under pressure, dealing with peaks and troughs in workload

* Willingness and ability to travel between sites and to external meetings

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. This is in line with the current guidance in England that whilst young people under the age of 18 can leave school (on the last Friday in June) they must then do one of the following:

* Stay in full-time education, for example at a college
* Start an Apprenticeship
* Spend 20 hours of more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

Disability Confidence: All applicants who have declared a disability and who meet the essential criteria for the post will be shortlisted.

At Risk of redundancy: NHS employees within the East Midlands who are ‘at risk’ of redundancy will be given a preferential interview where they meet the essential criteria of the person specification.

ID and Right to work checks : NUH authenticate ID and right to work documentation including passports and driving licenses through a system called Trust ID. NUH will scan your ID and right to work documentation in to the Trust ID system at your face to face ID appointment. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Consent:

* Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Departmentconfidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
* Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£49.50 for enhanced and £21.50 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay).
