Overview
Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Specialist role within the Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) team. This post is at band 7 and involves providing specialist IPC support services across the Integrated Care Organisation footprint. The IPC team is described as proactive and welcoming.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert professional advice and education on IPC issues to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carers.
* Act as clinical Infection Prevention and Control Lead for specified clinical areas, community healthcare professionals and social care staff.
* Develop evidence-based policies and procedures on infection prevention and control issues.
* Initiate, implement and report on surveillance, monitoring and infection investigation programmes, as required by the Department of Health and local needs, to advise on measures for the prevention and control of infection.
* Initiate, implement and lead on audit programmes as required at a local or national level.
* Develop academic programmes to promote excellence in infection prevention and control for all levels and disciplines of staff.
* Ensure continuity and co-ordination of the Infection Prevention and Control service in the absence of the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse and Infection Prevention and Control Doctor, and lead the response to infection outbreaks and incidents in collaboration with other team members.
* Support junior qualified and unqualified nursing staff within the Team in conjunction with the Lead IPC Practitioner.
* Lead a team within the Infection Prevention and Control team; monitor audit results and healthcare-associated infections in your area and develop action plans to support staff and patients in your area.
