Be part of AHRI, a GRDC-supported team driving innovation in sustainable weed control and crop science across Australia. Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for three years. Base salary range: Level B, $118,150 – $139,812 p.a. plus 17% superannuation. About the area The Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (AHRI) is a national research and communication team based at the University of Western Australia. AHRI research focuses on crop and weed science, and herbicide resistance in the Australian grains industry, having received major investment from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). AHRI’s mantra is “More crop, fewer weeds – sustainably”. To fulfil this, we conduct research and extension to encourage sustainable cropping and weed control across Australia. AHRI is based in the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment, which teaches and does research in cropping, marine and natural terrestrial systems. About the opportunity Develop and apply spatial simulation models to map weed patches and predict their dynamics over time under various management strategies, incorporating ecological and evolutionary processes. Seeking a research fellow skilled in simulation modelling, statistical learning, and with experience in ecology and/or agriculture. Involvement in postgraduate student supervision and interdisciplinary research within the Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (AHRI). About you A PhD in Agricultural Science, Biological Simulation Modelling, or a similar field. A demonstrable track record in excellence in research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals, relative to opportunity. Experience in collaborating in interdisciplinary research teams. Demonstrated evidence of successful co-supervision of higher degree by research (HDR) students, relative to opportunity. Demonstrated experience in developing agricultural and/or ecologial and/or evolutionary simulation models with an explicit spatial component.
