Location: Council House Hours: 37 hours per week Closing Date: 20/05/2026 Contract Type: Permanent Derby Public Health Department is a forward-looking team with ambitions to improve the health and wellbeing of our city's population and reduce health inequalities through working collaboratively with local people, communities and partners. The post of Senior Public Health Information Analyst will be central to the delivery of these ambitions by turning complex health, care and wider determinants data and insight into clear, actionable intelligence that informs strategies, policies, commissioning and service improvement. Working closely with colleagues across the Council, the NHS, UKHSA and other partners the Senior Public Health Information Analyst will help us understand population needs, monitor inequalities, support health protection, and provide insight that drives real change. Leading our public health intelligence function with skill and motivation, the Senior Public Health Information Analyst will help us to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Derby. What We Offer You too could be part of something brilliant by becoming a colleague at Derby City Council; in addition to making a difference to the lives of people across the city, you'll also receive: • Flexible work/life balance scheme (depending on your role) • Hybrid working (depending on your role) • Modern office environment (depending on your job location) • Continued professional development opportunities & career conversations • 27 days annual leave (rising to 32 days after 5 years' service), plus bank holidays (depending on contract) • Local Government Pension Scheme (depending on contract) • Team Derby Rewards - retail and leisure discounts • Tusker Car Benefit Scheme • Cycle2Work Scheme & free cycle training • Employee Assistance Programme, Wellbeing Calendar and Support • Access to our Equality Employee Networks - LGBTQ, Disabled Employee Network & Carers and our Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic Employee Support Network and Neurodiversity Network • Support for colleagues who are carers The Opportunity In the role of Senior Public Health Information Analyst, here's an example of what you'll be doing to make an impact: You will be supporting the Public Health Department and wider Council to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the population of Derby and reduce health inequalities by leading our public health intelligence function to: • Lead the analysis and interpretation of complex health, care and wellbeing data using appropriate statistical and epidemiological methods. • Design, develop and manage public health intelligence systems and datasets, ensuring data is accurate, secure and ready for analysis. • Produce high quality reports, dashboards, briefings and presentations for a wide range of audiences, including senior managers and Boards. • Provide expert intelligence and advice to support strategies, policies, commissioning and service redesign, including health protection and emergency planning. • Design and undertake surveys, audits and local research projects to support service development and evaluation. • Line manage and develop health intelligence staff (where required) and provide training and support to build analytical capacity across the organisation. - You will be a key member of the Public Health team, working alongside Consultants, Public Health Managers and partners across the local system About You To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have • Highly specialist knowledge and experience of statistical and epidemiological techniques, gained through a relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience. • Significant experience of working with large and complex datasets and information systems, ideally including health and care data (for example, primary care, secondary care, public health surveillance, health protection or social care). • The ability to translate complex analyses into clear, meaningful messages for technical and non technical audiences. • The confidence to work with partners across the Council, NHS and other organisations, and can advise on the appropriate use and interpretation of data. • Experience of designing and delivering surveys, audits or research, and of contributing to evaluation and service improvement. • Understanding of data protection, confidentiality and information governance requirements, and applies them consistently in their work. • Is highly organised, able to manage multiple projects and priorities, and committed to continuous professional development.
