Offer description

You will be an experienced and confident professional with a strong understanding of Welsh language legislation, language planning and policy development within a local government context. About you:

* Provide technical advice on the effective implementation of our statutory duties under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 and the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, driving the development of services through the medium of Welsh and in support of the Corporate and Strategic Equality Plan.
* Monitor the council's compliance with statutory Welsh Language Standards, and publish annual Welsh Language Standards Report.
* Support the overall integrity and accessibility of the Welsh language in contributing to improved outcomes for the people of Powys.
* Promote the Welsh language, ensuring increased opportunities to use the Welsh language through the Council's activities, and within the wider community by working with partner organisations to increase the use of the Welsh language within Powys.


What you will do

You will be confident in advising senior officers, Councillors and external partners, able to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery. The post plays a key role in promoting, embedding and strengthening the use of the Welsh language across Council services and in the wider community, supporting improved outcomes for the people of Powys. The post holder will also line manage two Welsh Language Development Officers, supporting delivery of Welsh language promotion activity at a local level. There is no DBS Check requirement for this position.
