Job Title: Supported Living Worker in Community Participation Services

Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester, and Lancashire, St Helens is a modernising Council passionate and ambitious about supporting adults and families, our communities, and our workforce. As part of our transformation journey, we continue to build on our progress and put people at the centre of our care, supported by a highly valued, skilled, and supported workforce.

Making a Difference as a Supported Living Worker

We are offering several vacancies for Support Workers in our Supported Living Service, with hours available at 1, 15, and 25 hours per week.

Supported Living is a service that enables and supports adults with learning disabilities and complex needs to live independently in their own homes.

Our aim is to promote positive, fulfilling lives for Service Users through social inclusion, choice, and developing their independence in a person-centred approach. Support involves personal care, using safer people handling equipment where necessary, and supporting Service Users with challenging behaviour by following risk assessments and management strategies while promoting independence.

The client group requires consistent, intensive support due to their learning and physical disabilities or behaviour. We adopt a multi-agency approach to help manage behaviour positively and ethically.

The role involves working from person-centred support plans and risk assessments, following policies such as safeguarding procedures, and attending regular training.

Supported Living Workers need to be flexible to support 25 Service Users across 15 tenancies in St Helens. Shifts may include sleep-in duties, waking nights, and various shift patterns from early mornings to late evenings. Shift patterns can change to meet Service Users' needs, including weekend and bank holiday work.

The hourly rate is between £13.26 and £13.47.

Applicants should have experience working with adults or children with learning disabilities, ideally possess an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent, and be willing to undertake essential training. A driving license is advantageous but not essential.

Although posts are for 10, 15, or 25 hours, additional hours may be available to support the service during training, holidays, or sickness.

Benefits include paid holidays, occupational health support, and other employee benefits. We recommend contacting us before applying to discuss the role and your interest. Full job description and person specification details are available online.

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure. We reserve the right to close the advert early if sufficient applications are received.

St Helens Council is a Disability Confident Leader, guaranteeing an interview to disabled applicants meeting the essential criteria and making reasonable adjustments during the process.

Equality & Diversity

We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds who share our commitment to inclusion and transformation.
