Role Description
The Senior Social Editor is responsible for sourcing and assigning stories to writers, producing content & overseeing platform schedules and general social page performance. The Senior Social Editor will carefully monitor the output of Trending Writers and Junior Social Editors.
Working beneath our Editorial Director and Deputy Head of Editorial, the Senior Social Editor's primary responsibilities will be driving website performance and social media engagement. They will be an expert in sourcing and packaging content in order to generate maximum traction across different social platforms. They will be able to identify what stories will generate quality clicks to the website and what will keep our audience engaged. They will be experts in social engagement on our verticals and will create a daily editorial schedule based on their knowledge. They will also be able to spot opportunities for the development of our own distinctive content based on the news agenda of the day. This isn't just about chasing traffic. This is about driving real value for our audiences.
The Senior Social Editor will have ownership and of and be responsible for specific channel growth, ensuring quality and quantity of content is in line with broader editorial strategy.
The role will involve working alongside writers, designers and others to apply creative flair to editorial output. The Senior Social Editor must be able to lead a team of journalists and content creators to craft high quality content for website and social media.
Essential experience:
* Experience working in social publishing for a digital-first brand.
* Strong understanding of the UK and Irish news agenda and how to stand out within a crowded sector.
* A strong track record of driving traffic to a website, and/or driving high engagement/new followers to a social media page.
* Experience leading journalists is a must
* Experience in website performance metrics including clicks, dwell time, bounce rate.
You should have the following skills:
* Great verbal and written communication skills
* Previous experience with high-volume social media properties
* Understanding of digital publishing industry and the related key performance indicators
* Ability to source viral content effectively
* Editorial research skills
* Ability to make quick editorial decisions
* Confidence in hitting set website traffic targets
* Ability to work under pressure
* Display a high level of curiosity and willingness to consistently test new ideas
* Understanding of ethical and legal considerations in editorial decision-making
* Ability to lead a team of writers and content creators with sound editorial decision-making.
* Ability to create and develop content strategy based on analytics, with an ability to translate that into actionable responsibilities to junior team members.
