Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Location: Wigan
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000
An established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Wigan. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys the design side of geotechnics and is looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects.
The Role:
This is a design-led position, with a focus on delivering geotechnical solutions across a wide range of infrastructure and development projects. You will be involved from concept through to detailed design, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertaking detailed geotechnical design, including foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and earthworks
Producing and reviewing design calculations in line with Eurocodes and UK standards
Interpreting ground investigation data and developing ground models
Preparing high-quality technical reports and design specifications
Supporting and mentoring junior engineers
Liaising with clients, contractors, and internal design teams
Providing technical input during project planning and delivery stagesRequirements:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline
Strong experience in a geotechnical design role within a consultancy environment
Proficiency in design software (e.g. GeoStudio, PLAXIS, or similar)
Solid understanding of UK design standards and Eurocodes
Experience with foundation design, retaining walls, and slope stability analysis
Strong communication and report writing skillsDesirable:
Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE or equivalent)
Experience working on infrastructure or large-scale development projectsBenefits:
