Job Overview
Holy Cross College is seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our successful team, here at Holy Cross and support the delivery of practical activities across Chemistry and Applied Science.
The enthusiastic teaching team feel that active learning, especially practical work, plays a key role in the teaching and learning strategies within the Department and this is supported by the highly qualified and experienced technical team.
The College operates a curriculum cluster model, with the Chemistry and Applied Science cluster being among the largest at Holy Cross, in terms of both staff and student numbers.
The Chemistry subject area currently teaches OCR GCE, with 120 students following the Year 2 Chemistry course and 130 enrolled on the Year 1 course. The Department has large well-equipped laboratories and access to theory rooms with interactive whiteboard facilities. Students have the opportunity to extend their work outside class through talks by visiting speakers and trips.
The Applied Science subject area consists of 7 members of teaching staff, some of whom also teach in the A Level sciences. Applied Science is also one of the top performing subject areas in the College.
The Department currently delivers the following qualifications for Applied Science:
* NQF Level 2 First Award in Principles of Applied Science
* RQF Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science
* RQF Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science
The College is committed to Science education and more widely offers A level Biology and A level Physics – the successful candidate may have the opportunity to work across all areas of Science in specialist facilities, including a rooftop observatory.
Overall, the Science areas have access to 7 well equipped laboratories and 5 theory classrooms. All rooms are fully resourced with interactive whiteboards and linked to the College network. There are also laptop trolleys and dedicated computer rooms.
Staff in the Department actively promote extra-curricular activities to enrich our students’ experience at Holy Cross and the successful candidate will have opportunities to work collaboratively across all of the Science subjects.
