CALLEYDOWN SHORT BREAK CHILDRENS’ HOME in New Addington
Residential Childcare Care Worker
Permanent – 36 hours per week
Salary: Grade 5 £33,012 - £33,987
Calleydown is a residential short break care home for Children with Learning Disabilities aged 5 to 18 years. Some of the children have associated physical disabilities with total care needs, and some have challenging behaviour. Calleydown forms part of Croydon’s Services for Children with Disabilities Team and is located in New Addington, Croydon.
We are looking to recruit a residential worker with childcare experience to join our team and welcome applications from male and female workers. Applicants will need to understand the additional needs children with disabilities have and be willing to offer care and support that meets those needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Support and care for children and young people, offering opportunities for them to have fun, develop and learn new skills.
* Assist the team providing care to children and promoting positive outcomes, under the supervision of a shift manager.
* Maintain the home and carry out household and domestic tasks.
* Complete children’s records and use computer skills for recording information.
* Manage challenging behaviour and carry out permissible forms of control and physical interventions.
* Work on a regular rota pattern, including 2‑10 pm and 7 am – 3 pm shifts, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑in duties.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience in childcare and working with children with disabilities.
* Excellent communication, child‑focused and organisational skills.
* Ability to adapt to situations and maintain a flexible approach.
* NVQ or Diploma level 3 in Children and Young People (or willingness to complete the training within the first 2 years of employment).
* Enhanced DBS check required.
