HMRC's Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the department's civil and criminal investigations. Our investigation capability is fundamental to managing and reducing the tax gap, meeting HMRC's strategic objectives and supporting the aims of a healthy tax system. It is also a key component of the compliance strategy, promoting compliance across the population and prompting behavioural change, preventing and responding to harmful attacks on the tax system and ensuring none are beyond our reach.
Investigation Services brings mainstream and highly specialist capabilities together to enhance and support the full range of criminal, civil and regulatory investigations into serious tax fraud and money laundering undertaken in FIS. This role in Investigation Services Core provides vital services to the full range of FIS investigations, helping HMRC tackle the many and pressing challenges that modern-day tax fraud presents.
Assistant Investigation Hub Officers will be responsible for delivering Core services, covering a variety of activities and are part of every criminal and civil investigation carried out by HMRC.
There is an element of manual work included with the role, including manual handling, preparation of operational items, property exhibits, vehicle checks.
Interrogating departmental systems, preparing standard intelligence packs and standardising and interpreting data.
• Developing professional stakeholder relationships with investigators to support planning and delivery.
• Attendance on the Investigation Services Officer Training course is required, which may require travel with an overnight stay.
• Additional travel maybe required, alongside overnight stays.
• This is an office based role requiring a minimum of 60% office attendance.
The successful candidate may work on our Records Management Team, who administer the movement of criminal & civil case papers between all Investigation Hubs and our third party contractor.
Deliver high quality, professional and accessible services, anticipating the needs of our investigations by:
Performing tasks suitable to the Assistant Officer grade in line with the guidance provided and referred to above.
Identifying, through conversations and outcomes of quality assurance processes, any development needs and ensure these are communicated to your line manager.
Developing a professional relationship with local investigators, case teams and other teams within IS and FIS.
Vehicle Fleet maintenance - ensuring the Vehicle Fleet is operational by undertaking vehicle checks, driving the vehicles to and from garages for repair / maintenance. Liaising with the Fleet provider KINTO.
Maintenance and assurance of operational assets.
Applicants must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office O365 products, including Word and Excel.
A full valid UK Driving Licence (manual and automatic, but not a provisional licence) at the time of application and be willing to drive official vehicles.
