Overview
Principal/Senior Land Quality Consultant – Amentum, Whitehaven, England, United Kingdom.
We are seeking a Principal or Senior Land Quality Consultant to join our established environment, energy and defence teams. You will act as a technical lead on contaminated land projects, contribute to project management, client liaison, and mentoring of junior colleagues, while helping ensure health, safety and environmental compliance across projects.
This role offers flexible working arrangements (a mix of office-based and home working) and can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical Leadership: Act as a technical authority on land quality projects, guiding investigations, risk assessments, and remediation strategies.
* Project Management: Plan and deliver projects on time and within budget, including scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with clients and subcontractors.
* Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders, providing clear updates on progress, risks, and potential solutions.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all works adhere to UK environmental legislation and best practices for contaminated land management, particularly in high-hazard industrial contexts.
* Team Collaboration & Mentorship: Support junior staff with technical guidance and feedback; foster a positive environment that promotes knowledge sharing and growth.
* Business Development: Contribute to proposals and bids, identifying opportunities to expand land quality services and strengthen client relationships.
Required Qualifications
* Contaminated Land Experience: Demonstrable 5+ years of investigation and remediation experience, with knowledge of risk assessment methodologies for human health and controlled waters; experience applying the Environment Agency’s Remedial Targets Methodology is advantageous.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with UK legislation including Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act and Environmental Permitting Regulations; experience applying CL:AIRE DoWCoP.
* Project Delivery: Proven track record of delivering medium-sized projects with budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.
* Education: Degree in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Engineering or related subject (MSc or higher desired).
* Professional Qualifications: Progress towards or attainment of chartership (e.g., CGeol, CEnv) and/or SiLC accreditation is advantageous.
* Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to present complex information clearly and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
* HSE Focus: Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental excellence.
* Other: Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK and hold a valid UK driving licence.
