Role Overview
This Senior Operational Risk Analyst role plays a key part in delivering independent oversight and subject matter expertise across operational risk activities. Reporting into the Operational Risk & Resilience Manager, the role will act as a central point of contact for all matters related to operational risk across the group.
You will support the business in identifying and managing its operational risk exposures, oversee supplier risk activities, and contribute to wider risk and resilience initiatives. The position offers broad exposure to senior stakeholders and opportunities to influence key governance forums.
Key Responsibilities
6. Provide Second Line challenge and insight into how operational risks are identified, assessed, and managed across the organisation.
7. Act as a trusted advisor to First Line stakeholders, supporting their understanding and management of risk.
8. Deliver reporting on key operational risk outputs, including risk maps, RCSA reviews, incidents, thematic reviews, and control testing.
9. Monitor external developments to identify emerging risks or regulatory changes, ensuring internal frameworks are kept up to date.
10. Provide oversight of supplier and third-party risk, including key outsourced services and associated exit strategies.
11. Support and review risk assessments for material change initiatives, ensuring appropriate controls are in place and monitored.
12. Work closely with related functions including IT security, compliance, and business continuity to align risk activities.
13. Contribute to the maintenance and evolution of the operational risk framework, policies, and governance structures.
14. Represent Operational Risk in relevant internal committees and forums, providing clear and actionable insight.
15. Support the development and upkeep of risk management systems, including governance, risk, and compliance platforms.
Experience & Skills Required
16. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Second Line Operational Risk role within a regulated banking environment.
17. Strong familiarity with UK regulatory frameworks (FCA, PRA) and expectations around operational risk.
18. Broad exposure to risk types such as conduct, cyber, IT, and compliance.
19. Proven experience with risk assessment tools such as RCSA, thematic reviews, and incident analysis.
20. Sound understanding of the three lines of defence model and how it applies in practice.
21. Experience in risk systems (e.g., GRC platforms) and delivering training to First Line stakeholders.
22. Skilled in controls testing and assurance activities.
23. A relevant degree is required; professional risk certifications are desirable.
24. Excellent analytical, presentation, and communication skills—comfortable engaging at senior levels.
