Applications are invited to apply for the full-time Locum Consultant Orthogeriatrician in Orthopaedics. This post joins the existing Consultant Orthopaedic and Ortho-Geriatric team based across two DGH sites at Hastings and Eastbourne. The position will be predominantly ward-based at Conquest Hospital, Hastings.
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) provides comprehensive orthopaedic services for the districts of Hastings and Eastbourne. The role is to support the medical needs of trauma patients, leading and supporting the multidisciplinary team on trauma wards to improve patient recovery post-trauma.
This is a new locum post for a Consultant in Orthogeriatric Medicine within the Trauma and Orthopaedic service, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team recognized nationally and internationally. Our department participates in Professor Briggs' Getting Right First Time programme, and we host large trauma and orthopaedic teams to develop care pathways.
Key responsibilities include:
* Medical care of Orthogeriatric patients, mainly fractured neck of femur patients.
* Maintaining high clinical standards in managing Orthogeriatric patients.
* Managing daily care of Orthogeriatric patients on the trauma ward, following clinical guidelines.
* Teaching and training junior staff, medical students, and Allied Health Professionals.
* Participating in Continuing Medical Education (CME), Clinical Governance, and audits.
* Attending meetings and fulfilling weekly duties, including out-of-hours work as scheduled.
* Recording findings, investigating, and preparing patients for orthopedic surgery or other treatments, and maintaining their medical care during hospitalization.
* Attending the 8 am daily Trauma meeting when on duty and presenting patients as needed.

Applicants must have an established knowledge of geriatrics with a special interest in Orthogeriatrics and be registered with the GMC. The post is based at Conquest Hospital, subject to service needs. The orthopaedic department collaborates with GKT Medical School in London and Brighton Medical School, with regular medical student placements.
